NEUROFOBIA: MIEDO A LAS NEUROCIENCIAS, LA NEUROLOGÍA Y LA NEUROCIRUGÍA EN ESTUDIANTES DE PREGRADO. UNA REVISIÓN NARRATIVA

Introducción: Se considera la “neurofobia” como el miedo a las neurociencias, debido a la incapacidad de los estudiantes de aplicar su conocimiento de ciencias básicas a situaciones clínicas. Esto se traduce en emociones negativas y desinterés en el área, afectando el tratamiento de los pacientes neurológicos. Debido a esto, nuestro objetivo es visibilizar la prevalencia de la neurofobia y de la percepción subjetiva del grado de dificultad de la neurociencia en estudiantes de medicina y médicos no relacionados a las especialidades neurológicas o neuroquirúrgicas.
Metodología: Se realizó una búsqueda no sistemática de la literatura en PUBMED entre los años 2007 y 2022.
Resultados: Se encontraron 15 artículos que cumplieran criterios de inclusión, aportando los resultados de 7376 estudiantes de medicina entre primer año e internado, así́ como también médicos recién graduados, médicos no especialistas o médicos residentes de medicina interna. La prevalencia de la neurofobia tuvo un rango entre 30 % al 47.5 %.
Conclusión: La neurofobia es un problema objetivable y descrito en la literatura, que empieza a cobrar más relevancia teniendo en cuenta el aumento de la carga de las enfermedades neurológicas y el déficit de especialistas en ciencias neurológicas, especialmente en países de bajos y medianos ingresos.
